Great British Food Awards Savoury Preserves Category

Our Spicy Pineapple Chutney became our first multiple award winner by winning The Great British Food Awards Savoury Preserves Category.

Rosie Birkett esteemed food writer, stylist and broadcaster, known for her monthly columns in The Sunday Times and the BBC Good Food Magazine, stated:

“This chutney is absolutely delicious. It’s incredibly well-balanced, with the sweet acidity of the pineapple working beautifully against the fragrant pops of the whole spices. Every mouthful is zealous, hitting your tastebuds with the flavours of fenugreek, nigella and cumin. I can’t wait to make a cheese toastie with this. So gorgeous. I’ll also use it on the side of curries and stirred into mayonnaise to have with chips and fish.”

Great Taste Three-star Spicy Mango Chutney

Much to our delight, our Spicy Mango Chutney followed suit from last years success to give the business its second three-star accolade in the Great Taste Awards. Who said lightning doesn’t strike twice!

The Judges comments included:

Glossy looking chutney, there are bright spices dancing through this. Very well-judged heat which is present but doesn’t overwhelm. The chutney a very moreish quality due to the clever blend of spices which unfold as you taste it. Cleverly crafted. We would seek this product out.

“A wonderful natural sweetness of caramelised onions is followed by a whoosh of spice and flavours, crunch and popping of seeds. A very well-balanced chutney with subtle acidity from the vinegar which marries perfectly with the sweetness and spices. Well-crafted and delicious.”

“Rich looking chutney with a pungent aroma. A real wow in terms of flavour, beautifully balanced and exciting.”

“This is an exceptional chutney, full of flavour and interesting textures. We love the variety of spices and the way some retain a fresh crunch. The fruit is zingy and we felt it absolutely delivered a taste of India.”

Great Taste Golden Fork Winner

We are pleased to announce that Matthew’s Preserved have won the ‘Startisan’ of the Year Golden Fork 2019. This was awarded to the owner Matthew, for winning a three-star Great Taste Award in the first year of business.

Matthew said ‘I was completely overwhelmed with the whole situation. Not often I am lost for words but winning this award is definitely one of them. To think that my little preserves business has been awarded this prestigious Golden Fork within the first eight months of business has left me speechless.”

"A wonderfully aromatic, glossy and intriguing chutney. The spices have been wonderfully integrated, the sweetness well balanced, the heat gently building. We loved the balance of richness, sweetness, fruitiness and resonant spice here. Wonderful after tastes linger intriguingly."

"This glossy chutney packs a punch on the nose in a good way. It got our gastric juices working and we wanted to eat it immediately! On tasting we loved the crunch from the seeds and the flavours kept on coming. The spices have been cooked out properly and the chutney itself is almost caramelised - gorgeous. We decided we would love to eat with poppadoms and to heck with the curry!!! Just perfect."

"A deep brown chutney with a good consistency. All the seeds instantly visible. An incredibly exotic aroma with fresh spices. Pleasing crunch to the vegetable. The immediate taste is of soft sweetness then the complex flavours begin to explode in the mouth. Incredibly complex. Perfect heat building but never overpowering. Fresh, ripe spices."

"A fresh-tasting chutney with a really well-judged balance of interesting spices. There's a good fruitiness, and the heat builds gently. Very well-made preserve.”
